Three extra centimetres of cabinet height over the B10 may sound modest, but in acoustic piano design, it makes a genuine difference. A taller cabinet allows for longer bass strings and a larger soundboard area, both of which contribute to a warmer, more resonant tone, particularly in the mid-to-low register where uprights are traditionally most challenged.
The B20 remains a fully acoustic instrument: no silent system, no digital enhancement. It produces sound the traditional way, through hammer action and spruce soundboard resonance. That purity is exactly what many players and teachers look for.

The B30 at 121 cm is a genuinely different class of instrument, closer in tone to a professional upright. For most home environments, the B20 is the more practical choice: it is easier to accommodate, produces less volume in smaller rooms, and is still tonally convincing across the full playing range. The B30 is worth considering if you are an advanced player or have a larger room.

The acoustic B20 is the right choice if unrestricted playing hours are not a concern. The B20 is 3 cm taller than the B10 (113 cm vs 110 cm) and offers a fuller, more resonant tone due to the larger soundboard area. The B20 is better suited to intermediate players or anyone who wants a richer acoustic presence in a medium-sized room.
Is the Yamaha B20 good for intermediate players?
