A modern piano finished in a high gloss polyester lacquer will give decades of lasting gleam. Although maintenance-free, haze – abrasions – scratches and chips are all likely at some point.

It’s tricky to clean your own piano! Years of dust, paper clips, pencils and potentially moth(!) accumulate beneath the strings, within the action and in the key bed. Only a piano technician is to be entrusted with accessing the hard-to-reach areas of your piano.

At Venables Pianos, we are not only expert piano technicians, but hold our standards very highly in piano cabinet polishing and refinishing. We provide a meticulous piano detailing service:

Cabinet clean, interior vacuum, blow out and wipe down will clean the strings, soundboard, frame, listing felts, bearing felts, perimeter bolts, agraffes, tuning pins/string coils, damper heads. We remove the keyboard/action from the piano and vacuum the keybed, blow out the keyboard and action, wipe down the keytops.

The fallboard, music desk and top (lid) are the high wear cabinet areas and these benefit hugely from a buff and polish. Heavy wear can be attended to through our high level cabinet refinishing process.

Depending on the degree of wear, a level of buffing, sanding or polishing may be highly effective in restoring the finish to as new condition. The cabinet hardware is typically brass and will require some polishing and lacquering.

A final coat of UV resistant polymer wax is applied and buffed off. This aids in protecting the finish and repelling dust.
